Apparently, there is violence in the Congo as a result of the widespread belief that people are using black magic to shrink or steal penises.

"But when you try to tell the victims that their penises are still there, they tell you that it's become tiny or that they've become impotent. To that I tell them, 'How do you know if you haven't gone home and tried it'," he said.

Some Kinshasa residents accuse a separatist sect from nearby Bas-Congo province of being behind the witchcraft in revenge for a recent government crackdown on its members.

"It's real. Just yesterday here, there was a man who was a victim. We saw. What was left was tiny," said 29-year-old Alain Kalala, who sells phone credits near a Kinshasa police station.

One of the reasons why I've been gone so long....

It's not finished, as you can plainly see, but I'll finish it and a few others I've now started. And...I got two canvasses for my birthday so I've got more to plan. I just use acrylic paint on masonite---I'm cheap like that.

I've *really* missed it. I painted late Friday and almost all day Saturday---just listening to music really loud and playing with color. I'm a bit rusty (it's been over 4 years since I last painted) and it's taking me a while to get back into the swing of things. The only thing that's *probably* mostly finished (enough qualifiers for ya?) is the sky. I'm really excited about this one. It's gonna be cool. I have some texture stuff to play with for the rocks at the bottom and some gel extender for the water. Right now, there's a lot of place holder stuff...playing with color choice (water needs to be darker) and wet/dry brushing practice for the trees and their reflections in the water (*really* hard), etc.

I'll post other stuff as I get it more to where I feel like it's "finished"---whatever that is.

So...I'll be back posting more now. I've missed blogging as well. Some day I'll get that "all in moderation" thing down a little better.

In the meantime, here's a song that I recently got unstuck from my head. I heard it at a party back in *October* but the info on the iPod in question said "Track 1." Not so helpful. Then, a couple month later, at the same house, I heard it again! Still, no info on who/what/etc. So a couple weeks ago, I found out someone had purchased the record this song was on---a record from 2003, no less. So...once I found that little nugget, I've been playing the *hell* out of it. Here it is on YouTube (no video, just a picture and the audio). Enjoy!

Been under the weather *and* busy lately...but....

gnightgirl gave me some masonite and I'm going to try and finish a painting for Artists Against AIDS.










We'll see.... *But* I'm definitely going to AAA this year and hope to make that night my birthday celebration. This means you should find babysitters *now*....

Crispy Piggy

Today, I stopped by the Chamber of Commerce's Business Expo at the Assembly Hall to grab lunch. Several members of the Chamber were there selling food, handing out coupons---as was Foudini's.



















They ran out of pulled pork by 1pm because of the demand---and I think the Crispy Piggy was sweating it for a bit....
