If the fleet of rental trucks around town didn't tip you off, it's moving season, folks. First, the biggest garage sale around is coming up soon. The University YMCAĆs Dump & Run Garage Sale will be at the Stock Pavilion on Thursday August 24--Saturday August 26. This is the fifth year for the fundraising community garage sale.
If you want the bigger items like furniture, I suggest you early on the first day. And be prepared for long lines to pay and the smell. It *is* a stock pavilion after all, and chances are it will be a warm day. But there is a lot of stuff. And the heat might keep people away, but I doubt it. If you want to donate stuff, they will be accepting items Monday, August 14--Wednesday, August 16 from 12:00 p.m.--7:00 p.m.
I also saw an announcement that a new group is starting a local bike co-op. The first meeting of The Bike Project will meet Wednesday, August 9th at 7pm at the Independent Media Center in the downtown Urbana post office building (Broadway & Elm). The non-profit group wants to expand cycling services on campus and in the communities of Champaign and Urbana. They are working on an automated free bike distribution system at Allen Hall that should launch this August. You can email the group if you can't make the meeting but want to get updates or if you want to donate money, bikes, or tools for their bike co-op, e-mail: illinibicycleproject (at) gmail (dot) com. Looks like they might have some other local groups that might work with them on repairing and distributing bikes to the community.
And, there's a new blog called Soy is the New Black by C-U Veg Mom which will have quick, easy, and *yummy* vegetarian recipes for everyone to try and enjoy. The inspiration is one of C-U Veg Mom's favorite blogs, Vegan Lunch Box. C-U Veg Mom is a good friend of mine. Check her blog out and give her a little encouragement.
