The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire....

Hmmm.... Let's see....

1. Remind me...did the GOP-controlled Congress pass a resolution like this one when Valerie Plame's name was leaked?

2. A post over at xoverboard has a running tally of "Things that are" and "are not putting American soldiers in harm's way."

Tasty tidbits 4: WaffleSightings

I have no idea what this is, so let me share it with you.

The Taste

Since I can't say anything nice about the food, which is the whole *point* of a "Taste," I'll show you something I got at the Taste.

I picked up a few little items from the local pottery co-op. I buy something every year, but it's usually a bowl or a cup or a mug or something. I don't know what I would do with a vase, but a cool bowl---I can put noodles in it or a salad or maybe fresh fruit.... Got a few small things this year. The tiny ones are my favorites.

Apparently, for $65 you can join the Champaign-Urbana Potters' Club. You have access to clays, glazes, kilns, whatnot. There is a waiting list, however.

What the....

So I went to cash a check my upstairs neighbor wrote me for their share of the garbage bill. Before you ask, I cash checks rather than deposit them in my account because (a) it usually takes banks several days to clear the check and make the funds available in my account---even though when I write a check it's instantly removed from my checking account and (b) if the check bounces, I'm out an extra $25.

It's written on that local bank that is the same name as a street and the "woods" in Urbana.

I went to the closest branch and tried cash it in the drive-through.

No go. I have to go inside a lobby or walk-up for identification verification purposes. It's 5:19 pm. Sunnycrest branch is my only option.

So...I drive from the bank at Kirby and Prospect to the bank at Sunncrest in Urbana.

In order to cash the check, I must:
  • Present 2 forms of ID
  • give the bank my thumbprint (with no tissue to take the ink off my thumb anywhere in site---thanks)
  • give the bank my phone number
Now, I can't for the life of me figure out why they would need all this information about the person being paid. She wrote my DL#, my address, and my phone number on the back of the check, *plus* they have my thumbprint.

I'm now home finally from my trek to cash a check. It's 6:00pm.

From now on, it's cash only. Or institute a 25% surcharge for checks to cover my time and gas....

What he said....

If you haven't heard, Rush Limbaugh has been in the news again.

A friend sent a link to this post by terrance at The Republic of T. He points out that we are being distracted.

I know it was only yesterday that Rush Limbaugh was held for having Viagra without a prescription, while making his way through customs at Palm Beach airport. And I know that the last thing anybody wants to think about first thing in the morning is Rush Limbaugh with an erection. But, as Todd and Ian point out, Rush has been rather hard on medical marijuana users and people who bring drugs into this country. So I'm disinclined to avoid speculation where Rush in concerned.

Besides John points out over at Americablog, it feels like there's something missing from the story. I've been waiting for someone to point it out; ask the obvious question. What was Rush doing in the Dominican Republic? Why was he returning from a country known for its thriving sex trade, with a bottle of Viagra that didn't have his name on it?

These are not nice questions, which is why most people won't ask them. But Rush is not a nice guy. And when a pundit whose party pokes its noses into people's private affairs as a matter of policy is caught pocketing pills to pump up his penis, on his way back from a country plenteous with prostitutes.

Well pardon me if I'm compelled to prod and ponder why this public personality required a prescription for his penis in that place, and where he put it while he was there.

Ain't we bad?

Me and my nephew got temp tattoos at the taste

Delay in Burnham site project

Before I had a blog, I was reading blogs. And almost a year ago, I read on Little Blog on the Prairie (or lbotp) that it was rumored that a Trader Joe's could be a possibility for the proposed grocery store in this new building. Now, I *love* TJ's. My mom used to live in Chicago until recently and when I would go up to visit her, we *had* to go to TJ's the day I left so I could buy up all kinds of yummy stuff. It's not just the fact that it's all so good, but the prices are *way* reasonable, even in Chicago. (Of course, the fact that it was right next to a CB2 didn't hurt.)

Well, an article in the News-Gazette from Thursday says the project won't start until February of '07 at the earliest. Now, I'm disappointed, but I'm hopeful that our population will grow *just* enough to be attractive to Trader Joe's when they do start building. I just checked out TJ's latest "fearless flyer" and look what I'm missing out on:

Book Kogi (sesame-marinated boneless beef ribs)
Cuban Mojito Simmer Sauce (which I bought before---it's pretty yummy)
Soy and Flaxseed Tortilla chips (which I also bought before to eat with my hummus---only $2/bag)
8 oz tub of garlic hummus for less than $2 (you can get 4 oz at the store here for almost $4)
organic, whole-grain pastas (for *way* less than you pay at the grocery store)

And, of course, my favorite, all different kinds of yummy *cheeses*....

Speaking of food, I'll be hitting up the Taste tonight with my sister and nephew. My plan of attack will be:

Biaggi's Chicken Pietro sandwich
Blue's BBQ (not sure what I'll try---they have chicken, pork, and brisket and something called a "junkyard dawg")
Curtis Orchard apple cider slush
maybe some sort of ice cream or snowcone to share with the nephew

Ok...now I'm hungry....

Someone sent me a link to this video.

To sagefool's dismay, I seem to have cracked a speaker in my car. Perhaps I need to get some Blaupunkt speakers....

A small pearl....

I saw the big boss on my way out and attempted to crack a funny line. He asked me what was wrong with me---I seemed different.

I told him "I'm happy. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel."

He said "Better hope it's not a train."

Ann Coulter II: Electric Boogaloo

Apparently Raw Story and Rude Pundit are working together to uncover possible plagiarism in Ann Coulter's new "book."

This should be interesting.

Unfortunately, the appearance on Leno wasn't that interesting, but KT Tunstall's performance was.

Plus, KT had "This Machine Destroys Facists" written on some tape on her guitar. She looped her voice and played her guitar and kicked a tamborine on the floor. She has some *serious* talent. How she ever got a record deal I'll never know....

Coulter and Carlin on Leno Tonight!

Ann Coulter and George Carlin are scheduled to be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Carlin will be there to promote Cars, the soon-to-be-released Pixar movie, and Ann Coulter will be on to promote her new "book."

Should be fun....

Some warm-up tidbits:

Ann Coulter's greatest hits via YouTube

George Carlin working his craft (language) via YouTube

Set your DVR/VCR/alarm clock....

This one could be fun.

*wicked grin*

We are talking about *words* ---Frank Zappa

I love Frank Zappa.

I'm home today and someone sent me this link of Zappa on Crossfire in 1986. I've seen it before, but if you haven't seen it, take a peek. It's about 20 minutes long.

I dig this whole discussion because also take a unpopular view: All speech should be legal. I don't like any rules against speech. None. I'm an absolutist when it comes to free speech. More speech is better. Less speech is worse.

That's why I'm an internet junkie. It's *so* much speech. Blogs, messageboards, news sites, and more. It's an amazing example of how truly free speech can work. I don't go to sites that turn my stomach. I frequent sites that I find interesting, informative, etc. What I like, you may hate. What you like, I may find boring or uninteresting. But it's out there for each of us to find.

I have only myself to blame

Well, as I look over my posts, I realize I've neglected my blog.

I'm always annoyed with blogs I like that disappear all of a sudden (*cough---lbotp---cough*). I miss them. I get used to reading posts there and so when there isn't anything, it's kinda like when your favorite TV shows on reruns all the time (*cough---Lost---cough*). I scroll through Bloglines and---nothing. Ugh.

But...I'm *also* annoyed by posts explaining absences. Not so much with the blogger, but with myself. Who the hell am I to expect an explanation? I'm reading free, interesting content that I get enjoyment out of and somehow I feel I'm *owed* information about that blogger's life?

Now, since my content is only free and not interesting, I'm sure no one really cares why I've been absent, but for some reason I feel compelled to explain it.

So, I will and I won't. I'm busy. Truth. So is everyone else. No biggie. So I only have myself to blame for not posting because I could post links and whatnot from time to time, but I don't.

So...I resolve to post something---no matter how small---whenever I get the chance.

Right now, I'm watching my friend sagefool and two good friends from college and another friend play with their instruments with their giant earphones on. It is "Jam Weekend" where sagefool hooks up all his mastubatory dream toys---Like iControl and his computer with Garage Band and his board and lights and video screens and black lights and his amps and his new headphones...oh yah and his keyboard.... "YAH! YAH! G! G! THEN D!! YAH! YAH! G! G!"

"YAH! YAH! G! G! THEN D!! YAH! G! G!"

Soon...poker. Even though I hardly know ya.

Yah, it's that kinda weekend. We all get to act like we are idiots again.
